Course Preview
Learn advanced vocabulary to describe food and eating habits while also learning about American culture. (70 minutes)
Watch Food Insider video ‘Bubby’s Pancakes Make It the Best Brunch In NYC’ and answer questions. Here you will be introduced to some of the skills you need to pass the most common IELTS listening questions. (30 minutes)
Learn the passive voice and how to apply it to the past, present and future. (30 minutes)
Read an article about the origins of Thanksgiving and learn skills for four types of reading questions: Summary completion, True/False/Not Given, short answer and multiple choice. (30 minutes)
You need to start getting feedback on your writing tasks. This is an opportunity to practice using the vocabulary and grammar you have learned so far and get feedback on your writing. This will be graded by the teacher! (60 minutes)
You will be introduced to the methods for answering Speaking Part 1 and then you will put your knowledge to the test by doing a full practice speaking exam. For this speaking exercise you will receive feedback from the teacher!! (25 minutes)
You will once again need to record yourself doing speaking parts 1,2, and 3. This time think about the lessons you learned about speaking part 1 and try to apply them to your response. (15 minutes)
Learn advanced vocabulary to describe cities and places of interest while also learning about major American cities. (70 minutes)
Do a full listening practice test from IELTS USA. This activity will help you get used to the type of listening questions and the length of this section. (60 minutes)
Read a passage from IELTS USA on the International Style from the early 20th century. In this section you will practice 3 different question types: matching paragraph information, complete the sentence, multiple choice. (30 minutes)
Take the advice you received from the previous exercise and try to apply it to this week’s writing. In this section you will also learn tips for structuring Writing Task 2. (60 minutes)
Here we will discuss the PPF method to structuring your part 2 response. This method will ensure that you show the grammatical range necessary to get a high score on the IELTS exam. Following the lesson on strategy you will immediately have a chance to practice by doing a full three-part speaking exam. (25 minutes)
Apply the PPF method while taking into consideration the feedback you had from the previous lessons. Focus and try to make all necessary improvements as you complete this three-part speaking practice test. (15 minutes)
Learn advanced vocabulary to describe educational levels and experience while also learning about the American school system. You will also read about some challenges you can set for yourself to help you review vocabulary. (70 minutes)
Read an article about the history of public education in The United States. There will be three question types: flow chart completion, Match the sentence ending and Classification. (30 minutes)
Watch Vice News video ‘Charter Schools May Be the Future of Public Education’ and answer questions. Here you will be introduced to some of the skills you need to pass the most common IELTS listening questions. (20 minutes)
Review the four conditional structures and learn in which situations you should use conditionals. (30 minutes)
In this section you will be given two writing tasks to complete and then you will need to give feedback to the other students in the course. In this section you will also learn tips for structuring Writing Task 1. (80 minutes)
In this section you will learn speaking part 3 strategy. This strategy will require you to use the concepts taught in the grammar section so make sure you feel confident, before doing the practice speaking test at the end. (25 minutes)
As always, we will start this unit by doing a three-part mock speaking exam. This is your opportunity to take all the lessons you have learned so far and try to apply them to the speaking tasks. (15 minutes)
Learn advanced vocabulary to describe sports and competitions, in the practice section you will learn facts about sports in The USA and some of the most notable athletes in American history. (70 minutes)
Read an article about the psychology of sports fans in The United States and answer three types of questions: Matching headings, Yes/no/not given, and sentence completion. (60 minutes)
Watch the Olympic Channel video ‘Kerri Strug’s Unforgettable Determination to Win Gymnastics Olympic Gold’ and answer IELTS Style questions. (20 minutes)
Watch the Vox video ‘Why do taxpayers play billions for football stadiums?’ (30 minutes)
This will be your final chance to get feedback in this course. Think about everything you have learned so far and try to apply those lessons to this writing task. Remember this will also be graded by a professional teacher! (60 minutes)
This is your last turn to practice speaking! Try to use as much advanced vocabulary as you can to answer these questions and think about where you are excelling and where you need to put in more work. This response will be graded by the teacher!! (25 minutes)
